The benefits of CCC and other small business programs can be seen from the economic impact of small businesses on the United States’ economy. According to sources including the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Small Business Administration, Office of Advocacy and Census Bureau, small businesses accounted for more than 99.7 percent of all employers, employed more than half of all private sector employers, created more than 50 percent of non-farm private gross domestic product (GDP) as well as generated 60 to 80 percent of net new jobs annually in the early 2000s. Additionally, women owned 5.4 million businesses that generated $819 billion in revenues, employed more than 7 million workers, and had nearly $150 billion in payroll in 1997. Of the total minority-owned business receipts, Asian American businesses earned more than 51 percent; Hispanic Americans, 31 percent; African Americans, 12 percent; and American Indians, 6 percent; Hispanic Americans, 31 percent; African Americans, 12 percent; and American Indians, 6 percent. In effect, CCC’s infrastructure changes and new programs will strengthen the organization, improve the education programs, and expand the pool of entrepreneurial-minded men and women and, on a larger scale, create economic opportunities for the community.
